Last Saturday was a pretty day for me but it was a fruitful one! I managed to clear many of the things that i set out to do, such as spray painting, cleaning up my house, and also doing up a vineyard in my backyard! I've always wanted to tidy up the garden and beautify it, but when this busy schedule of mine, it is really very difficult to be able to find time for such things unfortunately. Moreover, 3 weeks into our fall semester, groupwork taskings and readings are crawling into my life, leaving me with even lesser time.
It's been some time already, that we've been growing melons in our backyard... They usually grow to this size. I am not too sure what kinda melons are them, but they are surely very different from the usual orange-flesh, round melons that I know off on the supermarket shelves. Instead, they are these long melons... Well at least my aunt cooks them~ and my grandma dries them~
When you dry them, they actually become a sponge! They are called melon sponges and are sold in markets actually. Like no kidding. My first impression was that these things look EXACTLY like noodles!! Then I saw the shape of it as to how the seeds are inside and realised that hmmm this actually really is the melon?!
Well I saw my scouting knowledge being put to good use once again! Really once a scout, always a scout. I was a scout ever since primary three. In the photo, you can actually see two square lashings tied on the poles! ehhh it felt tiring as I stupidly lifted my arms while tying the knots instead of more appropriately, using the ladder. Instead, I used the ladder to support the other side poles.
Well... I am quite happy with how it turned out!! What do you think? :P With the very limited resources that I had, which was just four green poles, I decided to use a super long bamboo pole that has since dried up when neighbour chopped one of his bamboo trees down. and used string and went around the poles so that the creeper-melon plants would be able to creep and latch itself unto the strings for support! :) Pretty happy with how it turned out though!
I AM GROWING MELONS, NOT WINE GRAPES.
