I am a university student who loves chocolate! Coffee is my best buddy when it comes to taking on my finals. I have a tendency to want to try and do so many different things at once and as a result, I've found my hobbies to be as such!
Nerfing is one of them, but aside from that, I also love arts and craft. I have my own startup, Thumbforlego at: where I sell my works!
I love to do all sorts of crafting, so you will see me uploading posts of my leathercrafts, thumbdrives, replica guns, nerf gun modifications and gundam models! I'm fortunate enough to be blessed by really supportive parents and given the chance to explore many, many parts of the world and try out a plethora of activities. This is also how I discovered my love for film photography, videography and piano.
The film photo above is unedited! My family loves cold countries xD. We managed to catch the northern lights twice!
I've also gotten the chance to experience many of nature's wonders
And my most freezing experience to date: riding a husky ski sled into the sunset (It was -38 to -40 degrees celsius and the huskies were pretty fast.)
Leave a message after the tone
Why 36000feetabove? This is the altitude that commercial planes cruise at and I have always loved the view up in the sky, being amongst the sea of clouds. :) Personally, my favourite favourite food has got to be airplane buns! Does anyone else feel the same way?! With a slice of butter and looking out of the window, I have yet to find an experience that can beat that.
After tomorrow, before today

Sometimes when i look back over the weeks and think about what to blog, sometimes it comes instantly whereas sometimes, it's really mind boggling about what exactly is interesting in my life to blog about. Amidst the business of my submissions and piano rehearsals and trying to keep up with thumbforlego, I had church camp!!! (Sidetrack, it would really help me a lot if you could like my page) ETEncounter was so amazing that even though I was only there for 1/3 of the time due to various commitments, it was truly an encouraging camp as ET zone (a zone in my church) merged with MJ zone (another zone in my church) to do this camp. I initially had my doubts, that things would be awkward but after realizing that everyone is from City Harvest Church and not labelling them as being in different zones, I saw how people were making friends with each other, helping one another. Oh god I just came back from a xplorer nerf war and im already sneezing like mad. Danggit. But it was fun!! taking time off the mundane schedule of life and doing something different once a month is another form of a "reset" button for me! Another "reset" button is also when I go to church, see my church friends once again, talk to them, hear out how their life has been for the week~Did you know that Yellowcard is going to be gone?! Like it feels weird now that they have just announced it. Or maybe they announced it way earlier just that I am slow heh. Nerf war today was fun as we gathered together and talked about our NS experience over lunch. I just find it interesting that every guy in Singapore who has gone through national service has his own story to tell. and it acts as such a great bonding tool! Not that we have the primary goal to be bonded therefore we share our stories, but it is just something that comes naturally from a conversation starter. As the work keeps coming and coming I soon realize that the end of the semester is approaching and I feel that it is way too soon?! Just like how i was so not "prepared" for church camp. One thing that I realized in such camps is that the older ones seem to be more rara, more garang, more involved in the camp, being hyped up. It is also the case for camp preparation like the making of team identities, etc. And I got intrigued because aren't the older ones going to have thoughts like "dang i am too old for this camp", "omg you seriously want me to run as fast as i can? I dont even remember how to run" or something along those lines. The picture above is actually our team identity. They are patterned green cloths. The only reason that I came up with, only because it felt like a convenient and satisfying reason to me to not cause me to ponder further is that the older you grow, you tend to see the bigger picture - society. That when you are younger, you tend to attribute anything that happens to the direct impact on you whereas when you are older, you tend to have more thoughts on society or people working as a whole. Therefore older people know that everyone needs to chip in an effort therefore everyone helps out during camp prep and camp itself? That they know that it is awkward if only the team leader is the one shouting and being so hyped up, so everyone does it together? It's a bit like an individual thinks he is invincible in a group you get what i mean? Photo was taken a few hours ago, was next to the photographer. Credits to Lawrence for the photo, Heng for the photo edits Cant wait for the term to be over! I think i'll do another post on today's xplorer war but just not now. I'm dead tired! It was only past midnight did I finally pack up my things and close the brief case! Surely I was tired out, but it was such a fun affair! Just last night at this same time, I would have been talking to people, introducing them to my handicraft, the lego keychain thumbdrive! Most of my time and energy for the past week have been poured into this one evening from 5pm to 12midnight. And it was SO GOOD. SO WORTH IT. It was a great learning experience for me as I talked to so many different people and hear their opinions and words of encouragement! Previously for last month, I had a mini corner, courtesy of my friend Alicia to showcase my products. Alicia was also selling her own handicrafts, Tassels&Carousal do check her out too as she sells really beautiful tassel earrings! From the last minute setting up of a facebook page, to painstakingly focusing on carving out more keychain thumbdrives, a lot of hard work was poured into making yesterday evening happen. Up till tonight, moments before I typed this, I was working on getting the product photos up! Sometimes I do wonder how everything is going to pan out as, as much as I would love to make these thumbdrives according to the requests by customers (meaning they order them), it is so much more convenient for people to buy them down on the spot at the fair. This beats them having to pay up front and wait for the thumbdrive to arrive. So, I had a stall yesterday! First time having that briefcase to myself! My first impression was that the briefcase was too big, but later on proved to be just right after i put in all my props. The funny thing was that at the beginning, everyone was more drawn in by my camera and the Y-wing than my products and I was like "WHY DOESNT ANYONE SEE IT". Met a couple of film photographers too! But I guess that also meant that my layout works too? Because people are still drawn in! and then that's when I start talking about my products. Having to stand and almost constantly talk all the way for 7 hours was really tiring and I found it difficult to edit photos and post them on Instagram, in a bid to raise awareness. Really so glad and thankful that students like us are encouraged to showcase our products at Red Dot Design Museum! Got a chance to talk to so many LEGO enthusiasts too and share some knowledge with one another! Participating in this fair taught me also when to give out namecards, as in not who to give it out to, but rather at which point of the conversation, or how do you transition to that. And the general consensus is that a lot of people loved my namecard! Which was exactly what I was going for when I decided to pay more for a namecard. Although even that itself, I felt I could have done better by including a little bit more information on it. Next time! when this stack of namecards runs out heh. There were so many cool performances inside, people drawing, other like-minded creative people selling their crafts, from plushies to plastic turning, resin casting. So many things going on! Now I am making it sound like it is my first time there. And it wasn't just the ambience there, the event there that made my friday night so fun, the most important part was the company!! Thank you to my parents for being so supportive, coming down with starbucks coffee, Brian, for rooting for me and trying to help me in any way possible, not to mention staying until the last train. And Alicia for doing this event together, making it so much more fun! Doing this fair together with someone else really helps to lift my spirits so much and gives me confidence too! because when you are comfortable in that environment, you also start to talk more fluently and naturally to customers and crafts enthusiasts! These are the only photos that I managed to take as I spent most of the time being busy, all the way past midnight! Which was really amazing because previously, we packed up our stuff by around 11pm but this time round, we stayed until 12 and it didnt even feel like 12 at all?! In fact, it felt like 10 to me only! So I am really really glad and thankful for all the wondrous support from the people who walked by and my friends for making it such a fun time! Maad June 2016 was a good - I would probably proclaim - perfect experience. Thursday, June 02, 2016
It's the 2nd of June and guess who is extremely late for a blog post!!! well on the brighter side, I am not late for classes! yes yes class has resumed.... It is only the third day of class and I am already dreading it so badly. God knows how my butt survives through those long lectures. I have already clocked in my first doze off in class heh. What's 24?! That's my age... the (...) is because 24 is the definition of "old" to me; the age that one transitions from being a youth to a young adult. The age when someone starts to end university life and starts to look for a job. The age of transition, the age of new found responsibilities and duties. Thought 21 was the BIG thing? I feel it is more like 24 because that is when your role in society changes from a taker to a giver. The pocket money is going to disappear soon and you have to work hard for your own salary now! Time to work that golden sloth butt of mine! These days have been particularly busy, right after Nerf war on the 22 of May, I have been pretty busy! Busy slacking actually. Giving myself a good break after the hard work for spring semester. It was a good semester! Made such great friends, got good grades, couldnt have asked for more! Now it's summer and school is back again. and it feels to me that when I start to become productive, I need to do it all the way. Which works out to something like this: On the holidays, because i am slothing around, i am lazy to go to the gym too and am quite "unproductive" although its still rest and everyone needs rest just that i probably have way too much rest... Nevermind! and once school starts, that's when i really start hitting the gym more often and getting ramped up for my piano and lego thumbdrives. Does this even make any sense or am i alone in this?! Nevertheless, MAAD fair is coming up again so i need to get prepared for that! 10th June is the D Day of which I hope it all goes on smoothly! On the other hand, I already have my first project presentation due in a weeks time and the following week has a test, along with church camp. So... It becomes a bit of a decision to make :/ Haven't been donating blood too so i need to get that done~ OH YES RIGHT 24, the title of my post! So my birthday just passed hurray!!! recorded most of it through snapchat and just saved everything as one whole story. I wish they had this way whereby people could view snaps on websites. yknow have some good old html coding. And for my birthday, mum bought me something that I really needed! A lightbox!! To take proper photos of my lego keychain thumbdrives. Here is a comparison shot with the lightbox and another without the lightbox. That way, you can really see how much of a difference it makes. This is the typical photo that I had last time. Which looked okay? but you can tell it doesnt look proper and professional. Now let's compare that with the lightbox one! Really big difference isnt it! I am still trying to get used to it~ after cropping this into a square, it looks just right! You can imagine so by covering it with your two hands! Which also means....that i need to take lots of photos one day for all of my products, those ready made ones. But at least now i have the opportunity to take proper shots! For some reason, i always end up eating and eating and shopping for my birthday HAHA i really am not too sure what other activities to do. Mum did suggest going to the art science museum and Red dot museum. I chose the latter only to find out that it was closed for the week! Plus I was so worn out because of the change in lifestyle (lol) one from that of a sloth to productiveness and it was the first day of school ugh. But still it was a good time spent with my family!! 24 is just my definition of "old age" but really i feel like i am learning so much more, making life more fulfilling, experiencing new things, that life becomes more holistic to a certain extent? That over the past year i've also gotten so much better in film photography, like the shot that i took above and there is still so much more to learn! whether be it film photography or videography and now, me trying to start this business thing. Thumbforlego also taught me new things, although i already know that i never like the idea of running a business but still it is so rewarding to learn the processes and how to improve. And in the process, listen to the stories of others! Not just limited to this Thumbforlego business thing of mine but also for piano, for crafting, for nerf wars, there are always so many things to learn from others but it's just whether or not we are keen on learning! OH and most importantly, learning in school HAHA although school seems to be the most challenging of all. heh. |
