I am a university student who loves chocolate! Coffee is my best buddy when it comes to taking on my finals. I have a tendency to want to try and do so many different things at once and as a result, I've found my hobbies to be as such!
Nerfing is one of them, but aside from that, I also love arts and craft. I have my own startup, Thumbforlego at: where I sell my works!
I love to do all sorts of crafting, so you will see me uploading posts of my leathercrafts, thumbdrives, replica guns, nerf gun modifications and gundam models! I'm fortunate enough to be blessed by really supportive parents and given the chance to explore many, many parts of the world and try out a plethora of activities. This is also how I discovered my love for film photography, videography and piano.
The film photo above is unedited! My family loves cold countries xD. We managed to catch the northern lights twice!
I've also gotten the chance to experience many of nature's wonders
And my most freezing experience to date: riding a husky ski sled into the sunset (It was -38 to -40 degrees celsius and the huskies were pretty fast.)

Why 36000feetabove? This is the altitude that commercial planes cruise at and I have always loved the view up in the sky, being amongst the sea of clouds. :) Personally, my favourite favourite food has got to be airplane buns! Does anyone else feel the same way?! With a slice of butter and looking out of the window, I have yet to find an experience that can beat that.

Film photography really has so many things to learn about. There is first the standard framing that digital camera users will also need to know how to. What comes next is the mastering of light. Photo-graphy: the usage of light. This is what distinguishes pictures and is also the thing that always haunts me when taking photographs. Trying to capture the essence of that particular scene can prove to be challenging at times, just like when i was trying to photograph elderlies doing their weekly workout routine.
I have always always loved photography but found it hard to get photographs that just seemed stunning. Here and there, taking photographs has always been fun! but i always wanted to achieve more, and with film, the effects have been stunning!! About 2 blog posts down, I posted as to how i got my first film camera! and after wasting 4 rolls of film, i am finally taking beautiful (in my opinion) photographs. I am still trying to catch the hang of understanding the light situation, when is best to use what aperture and the accompanying shutter speed. It just sucks knowing that the iso cannot change halfway while running through the roll of negatives, unlike digital cameras where it will automatically adjusts. So far, i am really loving the photo quality of film!! and omg the amount of detail captured is just so awesome. It really adds that whole ‘rustic’ look to the photograph for some reason. It’s also probably because of the lens.
One major major pro that the digital has over film, is the playback function. Once you snap the photo, you can always go back and see the shots again, if they are not to your liking, you have the option of retaking. However, film does not have that function. You have no idea if what you took will turn out nice in the first place and you don't have the chance of simply going back and taking the shot again — just like that time during art stage. I had no idea if my shots were going to turn up in the first place. Luckily they did!
With the help from an app called lightmeter, it helps me to calibrate my aperture and shutter speed!! There is a paid, ad-free version also available here. I find it particularly helpful, and what i do now is that i’ll look at the surroundings, what i want to take photo of and deduce what are the settings to use. after that, i’ll use the lightmeter to test it out if my deductions are correct. Starting to get better at this i must say! but its really interesting, as you wait for the films to develop and hope for the best :) These are my results of waiting!
By the way, I went to Mountbatten/Dakota area to take these photos of this dilapidated estate due for demolition this year.

wohoo!! I am so so ecstatic?!?! im so glad that when i after developing the 3 rolls of film, all of the films turned out good! I was so afraid for the past few days, worrying that the shots will not turn out as i've blown 4 rolls of negatives. But im glad that finally it turned out! Reasoning being for the negatives not turning out? Wrong way of loading the film heh (so noob). The scariest part is that for the first roll of film of "trying to load the film properly", it was going to be used for Art Stage and I went with Nat!! It was so fun for me, getting to see all of the artworks, the creative ideas, the way how the artists portray, really khool! For the film developing service that i go to, they take about 3-4 days and that meant that by the time i saw the developed photos, if they did not turn out, i would not have the chance to retake any shots as the fair would have ended by then.I spotted art pieces that i really REALLY liked, although there is no way my wallet can support that, i just hope that next time I have the ability to, gotta work hard to achieve that!! but omg some artworks were just so pleasing! I personally liked this one the most: At art stage, I got to see how gallerists interact, seeing how people crowd around the artists as they explain their techniques and perceptions, what intrigues them. Haha i was unintentionally eavesdropping but it was so interesting! Some artworks really blew my mind away as to how they were done. and of course, there were those that i really couldnt understand. Nono not that i didnt understand this artwork...actually idk what is the meaning of this artwork, if there is one heh. :/ but still i just found it aesthetically pleasing, so i snapped a pic of it! Haha the first thing that came to mind when i saw this, was the stonehenge. The second thing that whisked past my thoughts was the circle of life. Shrugs. Moving on! Here are some of the beautiful artworks that i really like! (this is actually a dead bird and its feathers, WOW) This particular artwork reminded me of the famous aerial photograph of camels walking in the desert with their shadows showing the camels when actually its a top-down photograph... let me find the photo... Art Stage was really really cool!! and i thoroughly enjoyed myself, although i felt like there was way wayyyy too little time to walk around. We had about 2-3 hours (lol the big range) to walk around and it just felt like i haven't explored everything? Have yet to admire all the artworks, it felt that me not giving each artwork enough time or barely skimming past them gave them insufficient credits and recognition. That i could have done more by really seeing and attempting to appreciate every artwork, but there is just too many! Thank you so much for chance to see so many beautiful artworks :) Thursday, January 21, 2016
It's been long since i last blogged. Lethargy has been hitting pretty hard on me that i do not really want to move. This week is already the last week of holidays for me, before the whole year kicks off again. Even though my school has a really long december break as compared to other universities, we dont really have a summer break because of summer school. Of which since we do have that option, all of us take courses to fill up our time. And break time in between semesters last from 1-2 weeks which I prefer to deem them as negligible; hence the whole year starting off again phrase.Recently i've been trying out film photography... with a bit of successes here and there with nice photos but for the past week, i got a major hiccup -- two film rolls from my Pentax came out blank! now this was really REALLY bad because those shots that i took are all gone :(( the woes of film photography. But nevertheless, i brought the camera with me to troubleshoot with dad's friend and found the problem! The problem is me! I didnt load the film in properly (apparently it loads differently from my digital film camera and my lomo camera). As i look back at my holidays, it's been quite a fufilling one! in terms of me getting rest. Thats how i "operationalize" the worth of a holiday. How i give a value to my holiday, it is based on how relaxed i am! Afterall that's the whole point of the holidays. But as i approach my final year, I need to start looking for a job, looking for internships, building my own portfolio, growing my skills set. Over this holiday, i've found myself growing so much for piano the scores are some pretty insanely long though?! so long that i have to stack them up. I feel kind of sad that holidays are ending, but yet a part of me wants school to start. When school starts thats when productivity goes back up, i start doing little projects like making my lego thumbdrives, doing whatever plastic modelling, or spray painting or whatnot. It's really fun! this is something i made for someone during the holiday, i tried to mimic the 3D feel for this piece and it was quite a joy to make! I've made 3d magic cards before. *tries to find old photos of 3d magic cards but unable to do so* OH LOL found one!! this one has 25 layers. I have yet to finish up on my Gundam Unicorn kit, i totally forgot about it during the holidays!! i actually planned to finish it up during the hols but yeah, i never got about doing it. Probably when school starts! then i shall begin :P It's kinda weird because it is only when school starts, do i want to resume doing all of these art and craft works and actually do something with my life instead of lazing around. it's like the moment i get moving, i have to keep moving. but once i stop, that's it. I'll probably update soon after i get some photos developed, see how they turn out! in the mean time, i am going to try taking more photographs! Tuesday, January 05, 2016
Hmmm this is the second update i've done on a tuesday. Reason being...sundays i am just too tired out and monday....well monday is slack day! (actually which day isnt for me) until school starts. Then everything changes. Lots of catching up to do: spending more time with friends, following up on my hobbies like photography and nerfing. catching up on anime too. and of course clearing the house also. Speaking of camera, dad bought me a new camera!! Really hyped up over this camera as i cant wait to run through my first film roll of this and get it developed. It's a Pentax!! Recently, dad has also started to dabble into film photography and he got for himself a Contax G1 which i have been using! the shots are available in the previous post. For this one....not yet! I've yet to get the film developed and am only on my 20th shot. This is a Pentax Spotmatic camera, with Helios F2 lens! I just bought a new strap for it and was so tempted to buy this scarf strap but i dont think it's quite suitable for this tropical climate... So i just went with a more common fabric/leather strap. I was wondering if i should get a full leather strap, because it feels so common to always have that standard full leather strap! and its dark coloured too, dull. So I went ahead with a more vibrant fabric strap. Film cameras...are all second hand, very mechanical, all the shutter speed settings and all, you got to do it yourself unless you get an auto film camera. But thats the whole fun of it, trying out the different aperture and shutter speed settings. You can do that with a DSLR camera too, but there's just something different about film, taking the shot and not being able to see the outcome, only after developing. For digital, its really easy to use, just point and shoot and you have your photo, just like these 2 shots above, i used my Canon for it. But there is a certain fun to using different films, different lenses to achieve different effects, or even double exposure for lomography, they are all pretty fun! honestly i dont put much trust in my diana mini. it has failed me so many times but at the same time, given me that few, pretty wonderful shots. Oh and i got a new macbook decal for my mac!! decked out in Macally crystal case. Really digging this burgundy coloured decal on the outside, which is going to complement the wooden interior of my mac when the decal ships in :) |
